I’m a cultural theorist and author working at Maastricht University. Bridging cultural analysis with insights from political economy and the environmental sciences, my work explores the cultural dimensions and representations of capitalist accumulation, including rent extraction, labor exploitation, the attention economy, financialization, and ecological extractivism. Through the analysis of popular literature, film, urbanism, lifestyles, and (art)activism, I explore how these processes are reflected in and politicized through popular mass cultures. While my earlier work focused on cultural imaginaries of financialization and urban development, my more recent work examines self-help, class politics, and postgrowth. A central aim of my research is to develop cultural strategies that support contemporary movements for socio-economic and environmental justice.
